Weird Al's Phantom Menace parody "The Saga Begins" was recorded a month before the film's release in May 1999. Despite being denied an early screening by Lucasfilm, Yankovic managed to piece together the plot almost exactly by researching rumors posted on Star Wars fan forums.

In fact, to double-check his work before the film’s (and the song’s) release, Weird Al attended a $500-a-ticket charity pre-screening. His lyrics were almost completely spot on, requiring only a few minor tweaks.
